Aspers Casino now open
As reported by leisureopportunities.co.uk

THE GATE IN NEWCASTLE, UK - Damian Aspinall's flagship casino and entertainment venue, Aspers, is now open at The Gate in Newcastle, following a VIP launch yesterday evening (27 October).

His partner, Donna Air and the sheriff, deputy lord mayor of Newcastle, Councillor Diane Packham, cut a ribbon in the casino to declare Aspers officially open.

"As this is the opening of the first Aspers Casino in the UK we wanted to make it a night to remember," said Aspinall.

"My vision for Aspers is that it is a leisure destination for everyone. Our members will be able to come and spend the whole evening at Aspers and not gamble if they don't want to - they can have a drink, a meal and watch a show. There is nothing like it in the UK."

In addition to a host of gaming facilities, the 45,000sq ft (4,180sq m) Aspers Casino - which was designed by Australian architects Bates Smart - features restaurants, bars, an ipod relaxation lounge and a beauty salon.

The 1,200-capacity venue - operated by Aspinalls - comprises two bars, the Air Bar and Lady O's and two restaurants, Freya's and Café Marie.

Aspers also features 27 multimedia screens, sports screens and a stage for live music.

A second Aspers is planned to open in Swansea in 2006.

Onshore construction appropriate

As reported by the Clarion Ledger

BILOXI, Mississippi - The Mississippi Gaming Commission has approved an onshore site on Biloxi's Back Bay for a new $150 million casino that is projected to employ 1,000 workers.

The proposed Back Bay Beach Resort and Casino is the first gaming complex approved since Hurricane Katrina severely damaged or destroyed most of the 13 existing casinos. With the recent passage of legislation allowing casinos to build onshore on the Gulf Coast, this facility should be better able to weather future hurricanes and provide more job stability for its workers.

Restoration of the gaming industry - and the massive construction effort necessary to accomplish that restoration - is the quickest way to provide short-term employment stability in the ravaged region.
The wise decision of the Legislature to authorize onshore gaming will guarantee that the Gulf Coast's economy bounces back and that indirect jobs from the gaming industry are also available.

Gaming Commission officials expect additional new casino projects to seek approval in the near future. Competition is driving the market - to Mississippi's benefit.

Premier AG to Launch Online Casino In Germany
As reported by Online Casino News

The German online gambling scene could be about to get a shot in the arm, according to Sueddeutsche Zeitung, which this week quoted from company sources to reveal that Premiere AG has plans to enter the online casino sector, breaking into the German state monopoly.

The report says that Premiere has already engaged with major online gambling companies such as 888.com and Party Poker as it explores international possibilities but gives no further details. Premiere has had a dynamic few months, having recently launched a betting TV channel branded Premiere Win.
The report will no doubt attract the attention of the German authorities; the German Federal Constitutional Court sits in Karlsruhe soon to hear argument on whether the gambling market should be opened up to private companies.
