Jim
Mazur's The Del Mar Handicapper 2002 (120 pages, 8x11
spiralbound, $29.95) is a marvelous profile reference source for
anyone seeking to refresh their memory of horses for courses; running
style patterns; post position bias; jockeys; trainers; who does
well after layoffs or surface changes; who the quick starters or
fast finishers are among the trainers; who excels on turf; what
the top rider and jockey combinations are.
Trainer
records for the last three meets are listed along with those have
compiled a 40% or better winning average during that period.
If you're going to bet Del Mar for the first time or planning to
attend the meet and need to catch up on the track's quirks or angles
worth noting, this book should fill the bill nicely. It's especially
useful for those who are looking for information not found in the
Racing Form, the kind of information that can make or break a player
if he has or doesn't have it.
There's
not much in the way of reading material. It's mainly statistical
breakdowns can be referenced quickly, as needed.
