New Dance Show Follows Sexy Trend at Vegas Hotels

New York-New York Hoetl CasinoLAS VEGAS - In keeping with a new trend to add sex appeal to the tourist experience, the Canadian producer of three successful circus-like shows will stage a new one called "Zumanity" that will blend dance with sensual situations when it premieres July 31 at New York-New York Hotel Casino.

"While the performing arts company’s other shows on the Strip - 'O' at Bellagio and 'Mystere' at The Mirage - stress circus-style trapeze acts, modern dance and music, 'Zumanity' will focus on erotic dance "with the sensual caress of the human voice and the insistent pulse of exotic dreams," said show director Rene Richard Cyr. ‘’We will reveal another side of Cirque du Soleil," said Cyr, who is from Quebec, Canada.

"Zumanity" is a show for lovers, would-be lovers and anyone whose imagination has ever been sparked by the idea of love. "Zumanity" will be performed inside a new, custom-made 1,256-seat theater, which has velvet interior and “dim alcoves and intimate lighting (that will) allow for a setting in which fantasies can come true in a flash of searing passion,” Cyr said.

The show, featuring 50 American and foreign dancers and musicians, will run about 90 minutes, with two performances per night, Tuesday through Saturday.

Greektown to Downsize Hotel - DETROIT, MI - Bowing to the concerns of entertainment venues such as Ford Field, Greektown Casino plans to shrink the size of its proposed hotel, tweak its mix of building materials and concede that its previously preferred freeway exit could snarl traffic in its new neighborhood.

Until recently, most gamblers were expected to reach the casino's more lavish permanent operation, slated to open by early 2006, from Interstate 75's Madison Avenue exit. But in recent weeks, a push for an alternative exit at Lafayette Boulevard off of Interstate 375 was initiated by the city and businesses dependent on Madison Avenue.

The 12-member Entertainment District Association, whose members also include Harmonie Park, Fox Theatre and Detroit Athletic Club, complained that Greektown's 30-story hotel was too imposing and criticized its building materials. Revised plans call for Greektown's hotel to be a more modest 26 stories and include brick touches like its neighbor
Ford Field.

Montana Casinos Exempt from Smoking Ban - HELENA, MT - Casinos in Helena and the rest of Montana can continue to provide ashtrays for their customers after Gov. Judy Martz on April 23rd signed into law a bill exempting gambling licensees from any local
smoking control.

House Bill 758, which roared from its first committee hearing into law in less than four weeks, gives relief to local bar and casino owners who claimed that Helena’s thorough ordinance banning smoking in all buildings open to the public was cutting their profits and devaluing their businesses.

A statement released by the governor’s office said Martz sought to amend the bill to more tightly tie the exemptions to liquor and gaming, but in the end the bill was signed
as written.

The passage of HB758 leaves unsettled various legal wrangling over the Helena ordinance. A May 10 hearing was scheduled on the city’s appeal of a city court decision that the ordinance’s enforcement mechanism is unconstitutional.
