Restaurant Closing
at Golden Nugget Casino

LAS VEGAS, NV - /Las Vegas Sun/ - The California Pizza Kitchen restaurant at the Golden Nugget Hotel Casino in downtown Las Vegas will close within several months to make way for a new restaurant and entertainment venue.

Alan Feldman, spokesman for Golden Nugget owner MGM MIRAGE, said the restaurant will likely close in June. Less than 50 employees currently work at the restaurant, and the company will attempt to move all employees to other positions at the Golden Nugget while the restaurant is closed. Restaurant employees will work for the hotel-casino under a joint venture agreement.

The California Pizza Kitchen had "very strong lunch business, very solid dinner business, but what we're looking to do is add a late-night component," Feldman said. Future plans for the new restaurant haven't been finalized yet, but the company hopes to open it by the end of the summer.

The move comes during a renovation period at the Golden Nugget, downtown's most upscale hotel-casino. The Golden Nugget recently reopened its showroom and added a Starbucks coffee house. All rooms in the hotel's north tower -- about 400 rooms in all -- will be renovated this summer as well.

There are no plans to close the California Pizza Kitchen at the Mirage Hotel Casino, Feldman said.

Grand Hotel Casino, the time has come!

Austin Power Hits Nevada Casinos - LAS VEGAS, NV - A new video slot machine game based on the "International Man of Mystery" will begin making an appearance in Nevada casinos April 10, and will turn up in other jurisdictions by early May. The Austin Power™ game, which was already approved by Gaming Laboratories Inc., received Nevada Gaming Control Board approval on April 4. Approval in Mississippi was also received earlier.

"We had a lot of fun developing the game and designed it with the goal of making players laugh, maybe even gasp," says Joe Kaminkow, IGT's vice resident of product development. One bonus round features the alluring Fembots and in another, players help Dr. Evil eliminate his incompetent subordinates by flipping selected henchmen backward into a pit of flames. IGT says that while all ages will be attracted to the ''fast-paced, outrageous action," the Austin Powers video slot was developed with players in their 20s and early 30s in mind. The bright yellow cabinet and ''Groovy Baby!" topper will make the Austin Powers game easy to spot on the crowded casino floor.

An estimate of 1,300 new machines will be installed in casinos throughout North America.
