Valley Veiw Casino - another San Diego-area casino opens April 18, 2001
Another San Diego-Area Casino Opens

VALLEY CENTER, CA - The San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians celebrated the grand opening of Valley View Casino April 18.

The 45,000-square-feet Valley View Casino with 750 slot machines and 12 card tables is the third Indian casino opened this year in San Diego County.

The Pala Band opened the 185,000-square-foot Pala Casino earlier this month north of Escondido, CA. The Pauma Band, near Valley Court and the Campo band, east of Alpine, are expected to open casinos in May.

San Pasqual's Valley View Casino was built in southwestern adobe style with the financial backing of Alaska-based Sealaska Corporation and the gaming expertise of Louisiana-based First National Gaming.

The 300-member trip hopes it will be the first phase of a $180-million project that will include a full-scale resort, hotel and casino overlooking Lake Wohlford, CA.

Palace Station Hotel Casino
Introduces Pai Gow Tile Game

Palace Station Casino introduces Pai Gow Tile gameLAS VEGAS, NV - Palace Station Hotel and Casino recently expanded its Asian games area, known as Pit 8, with the introduction of Pai Gow Tiles (or Chinese Dominoes).

The addition of the new table brings to a total of 12 games in Pit 8, which included the addition of two new Pai Gow Poker tables.

"We've added the new game to Pit 8 because it is one of the best examples of an Asian game that can be played here. Dominoes has been played in China since at least the 12th century and it is believed that Chinese Dominoes were designed to represent possible throws of the dice because they are no blank faces on the tiles," said Jim Dickstein, Palace Station Director of Casino Operations.

Palace Station is one of 17 Las Vegas casinos to offer Pai Gow Tiles and one of the two off-Strip gaming venues to offer this game.

Pai Gow Tiles is an intricate game that is played with a set of 32 tiles or dominoes. The tiles are shuffled, stacked and cut then a set of three dice is rolled to determine the order of the deal. The tiles are then dealt four at a time to each hand. Gee Joon, (tiles ½ & 2/4) is the highest hand following by eleven matched pairs ranked from highest to lowest. After pairs, the next best hand is a nine count, followed by eight and so on. To play the game, hands are set to have two distinct pairs, a high and low hand. To win, both hands must win. Once each player has set his/her hand, the house exposes its tiles and compares the hand to each player.
