MGM
Mirage To Sell Its Amusement Rides
The
Las Vegas Sun recently reported that the MGM MIRAGE is planning
to sell all of its rides in their MGM Grand Adventures theme park
and may close it by January if a buyer is found.
In recent weeks
MGM MIRAGE has been working with a California amusement park equipment
broker in seeking a buyer for the rides. The attraction sits on
19- acres of prime real estate just of the Las Vegas Strip. MGM
MIRAGE is still mulling over what development options they have.
"We are trying
to see if there's a market for the equipment. We haven't made a
final decision about anything yet," MGM spokesman Alan Feldman said
in a recent announcement.
However, if
the MGM Mirage accepts an offer for the equipment the possibility
of the theme park opening next year is doubtful.
Items up for
sale include a carousel, bumper boats, bumper cars, a family roller
coaster and a log ride. The equipment is estimated at a $2.75 million.
Being sold separately is the theme park's signature thrill ride
the "Sky-Screamer," a 220-foot-high swing that propels harnessed
riders through the air. According to Performance Rides International,
the brokerage company, The Sky- Screamer, is valued at $800,000.
