Casino World Plans
Luxury Dockside Resort

BILOXI, MS - Casino World, Inc., subsidiary of Europa Cruises Corp., unveiled plans for its new luxury casino resort development at a news conference May 8 in Biloxi, Mississippi.

The 404-acre site, located in Hancock County’s Diamondhead area, will house a French-colonial-inspired casino, a marina, and an 18-hole golf course. The phased development will eventually add an RV park, restaurants, an outlet mall, four non-gaming hotels, a regional convention center, and condominiums. "This is the kind of property everybody dreams about," says advisory board president, Steve Norton.

"This is a premier site for ease of access." No construction dates are available. Casino World president, Deborah A. Vitale, assured that an ongoing proxy fight would not affect the company’s chances to secure funding. "We are light years ahead of where we were. All of our resources are now dedicated to proceeding full-speed ahead with this project."

Truckstop Casinos Seek Fair Deal - A group of truckstop casinos near Vinton, LA, want the state Gaming Control Board to determine if 100 video poker machines at the Delta Downs racetrack are legal.

Rodney Burch, who represents the truckstop casinos, first heard about the track’s poker machines in April. The issue has led owners of the truckstop casinos to file a petition with the board asking for its help.

In a "protest" letter to Hillary Crain, Gaming Control Board chairman, truckstop casino owners have expressed concern that video poker business in their area is down 30% partly due to video poker being played at the track.

The letter also states that Calcasieu Parish voters "passed by a small margin to allow slot machines at Delta Downs. It was specifically stated, during the campaign, that they could have only slot machines."

Burch noted that Delta’s poker machines offer a maximum $1,000 jackpot for a royal flush, while the truckstop poker machines are limited by law to offer only $500 for a similar hand. Rob Stillwell, spokesman for Boyd Gaming, which owns Delta Downs, says the track has about 100 video poker machines, but the slot machines were approved by the Gaming Control Board.

Truckstop casino owners plan to air the case at the board’s June meeting.
