Citibank Blocks E-Gaming Transactions - ALBANY, NY - Citibank and New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer announced June 14 that Citibank has agreed to block all online gambling transactions that use its credit cards. The agreement applies to all Internet gambling transactions, not just those in New York, and it is expected to significantly reduce illegal, underage and potentially addictive Internet gambling. "Americans now waste $4 billion a year on this pernicious form of gambling," says Spitzer. "With this agreement, we will cut off an enormous line of credit that was a jackpot for illegal offshore casinos. "Other companies, including Bank of America, MBNA and Chase Manhattan Bank, also have begun blocking the gambling transactions. Citibank, which controls about 12 percent of the nation’s credit card market, has also agreed to pay $400,000 to nonprofit groups that counsel and help families hurt by gambling additions. "Citibank agreed to take these steps to help alleviate concerns raised by the attorney general about the impact that gambling on credit may have on New York residents," said Citibank spokeswoman Maria Mendler.

Flamingo Plans ''Hot'' Poolside Additions - LAS VEGAS - Free-flowing tequila and attractive young women in revealing bathing suits are about to play a key role in the Flamingo Hilton Resort and Casino’s push to broaden its appeal to a wider range of customers. Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville is scheduled to open a restaurant, bar and live music stage at the Las Vegas Strip megaresort. Michael Berk, creator and executive producer of "Baywatch," is leasing more than 10 acres of Flamingo's pool area to redecorate as a themed enterprise. Plans call for two year-round restaurants, a seasonal outdoor luau show and "Baywatch Nights" nightclub. "We expect to have the most attractive women and guys in the city," says Berk. The project aims to be up and running by July 4. Company executives of the moneymaking property - owned and operated by Park Place Entertainment - believe The Flamingo’s size, location and price-conscious appeal could make it stronger with the proper marketing push.
