On Friday, September 6, Catherine Honer of Lindenwald, NJ was visiting with her husband and sister when she decided to challenge Michele the chicken to a game of Tic-Tac-Toe. Mrs. Honer won and as cheers and photos' flashes brought attention to both participants, Michele went about strutting her stuff clearly happy to be back in the limelight. The following day, Pat Feldermann of Glenwood, NJ, a first-time Atlantic City slot player, was vacationing at Tropicana with her sister when she became the seventh Chicken Challenge winner. After walking on the beach, strolling the boardwalk, visiting the Comedy Club and playing the "Gone Fishing" slot game, she decided to give the Chicken Challenge game a try. The three X's in a row rendered her speechless as she realized she had just won $10,000 playing Tic-Tac-Toe with a live chicken. Michele, was once again showered with much adoration both from onlookers and Ms. Feldermann who planned to celebrate by "living it up." Though Michele has enjoyed celebrity status and star treatment, during her Atlantic City engagement, her feathers became significantly ruffled last spring when The Chicken Soup Cook-Off was scheduled to mark National Tourism Week in Atlantic City. She found herself in hot water and was seeking clemency for repeat offenses relating to the loss of thousands of dollars to gaming participants while playing Tic-Tac-Toe in the Chicken Challenge promotion. Tropicana Casino & Resort officials however, felt that Michele provided a fun and lively attraction for visitors and though she did get a bit carried away at times, she should not lose her head over her birdbrain behavior. Michele was officially pardoned on May 8, and was sent back to her Arkansas farm for rest and "recooperation." Upon her return, she embarked on a new Chicken Challenge billboard campaign and has been fluttering about her henhouse suite practicing new moves. Known for heckling the crowd and persistent demonstrations of the correct way to do the chicken dance, she now plans to switch to a more sophisticated flapper routine. One of fourteen Chicken Challenge chickens, Michele is responsible for four out of the seven $10,000 Tic-Tac-Toe winners at Tropicana Casino & Resort. She will continue on as a featured performer in the Chicken Challenge promotion while officials renegotiate her contract. |
