Seneca Casino Seeks 2,000 Workers - BUFFALO, NY - /Buffalo Business First/ - The Seneca Niagara Falls Gaming Corp.(SNFGC) opened an employment center Tuesday, Oct. 15 in Niagara Falls in search of some 2,000 workers for their planned casino. "We need to hire and train 2,000 employees in time for our New Year's Eve opening," said G. Michael Brown, president and CEO of SNFGC. The employment center is located in Niagra Falls near the casino at the Rainbow Mall. Officials will accept applications and conduct interviews at the center. Recruits will undergo an 8-week training class to be taught by the casino staff. Entry-level salaries for non-management positions start at $18,000 per year while management positions range from $35,000 - $75,000 annually.

Survey Shows Casino Jobs Bolster Economy - /Telegraph Herald/ - "Oh, my God! My husband and I have bought a house, two cars, saved a lot for my daughter's college education. We have a 401(k) plan, insurance," says Jayne Kersch, table games supervisor at the Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque. Kersch , along with more than half of Iowa’s 10,000-plus casino workers, took part in a recent "Employee Economic Impact Survey" conducted by the Iowa Gaming Association. The poll touched on issues related to job satisfaction, saving money toward retirement and employee ability to provide for family needs. Among the survey results, 44 percent indicated they pay their bills more regularly, 25 percent said they make more money, and 14 percent have increased their savings. Iowa's racetrack and casino industry combined for an annual payroll of more than $200 million, and Dubuque's two gambling houses together pay more than $20 million in wages and salaries annually. The survey suggests many of those dollars are being spent in Iowa stores. "The gaming industry's tremendous impact on Iowa's economy and labor market is evident in the results of this survey," says Wes Ehrecke, president of the Iowa Gaming Association.
