Delaware Racinos, Gamblers
Adjust to Smoking Ban
-
WILIMINGTON, DE – Delaware gamblers can no longer
smoke while playing slots at the three Delaware racetracks,
prompting the tracks to accommodate smokers as best they
can.
"We
have locations adjacent to the facilities that they can
walk into. We have tables, chairs and ashtrays set up
for them," said William Fasy, chief operating officer
of Delaware
Park, the state's highest-grossing racino.
A
statewide ban on smoking in public buildings and workplaces
took effect the day before Thanksgiving. Racino operators
are understandably worried about losing customers. "My
gut feeling is that it's going to be a negative effect,"
said Fasy, who doesn't smoke. "Still,"
Fasy said, "I haven't seen drastic change in two
days."
