Harrahs Sponsors
Winston Cup Race

LAS VEGAS, NV - Driving at full throttle into the NASCAR racing circuit, Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. announced November 17 it will be the lead sponsor of the 500-mile NASCAR Winston Cup race held at the Texas Motor Speedway, in Justin, TX located just outside Dallas/Fort Worth, next April.

This news is on the heels of last month's announcement that Harrah's would sponsor Larry Foyt in the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series next season. Larry Foyt is the son of racing legend A.J. Foyt, whom Harrah's has sponsored for the past two years.

"Sponsorship of the 2001 Harrah's 500 is a logical next step in our evolving participation in motorsports,'' said Gary Loveman, chief operating officer for Harrah's Entertainment.

"Our sponsorship of the Harrah's 500 will reinforce our brand with race fans in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, which is a key feeder market for our Harrah's and Rio casinos in Las Vegas and our Harrah's Shreveport and Lake Charles casinos in Louisiana,'' he said. ``The timing is especially right, with the opening of our new 500-room hotel in Shreveport in February 2001, approximately one month prior to the race.''

The NASCAR Winston Cup Series is the nation's fastest-growing sport. Last year, the Series drew an average 191,000 racing fans to each event -- up 97 percent since 1990 -- making it the country's top spectator sport. The Series generated 72 percent audience brand loyalty to sponsors, the highest among major sports in the United States, and NASCAR.com was the top web site in sports, attracting 4.6 million unique users per month.

Founded more than 60 years ago, Harrah's Entertainment, Inc operates 21 casinos in 17 markets in the United States under the Harrah's, Rio, and Showboat brand names.

Internet Bookmaker Offers Betting
Line for 2004 Presidential Election

LONDON, ENGLAND - Eventhough the 2000 Presidential Election has yet to be decided Internet bookmaker William Hill opened the betting line on November 8 on the outcome of the 2004 US Presidential Election and made the Republicans a 8/11 favorite to win, with the Democrats quoted at even money.

Both bettors and politicians are waiting the outcome of the current Presidential Election but William Hill will not be paying out until the result has been officially confirmed. "One punter (gambler) has staked 15,000 pounds sterling (approximately $21,300 US) on Al Gore and stands to collect 33,750 pounds (approximately $48,000 US) if he is successful," said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Hill, who took over 300,000 pounds (approximately $427,000 US) said it was their busiest betting Presidential Election since they began taking bets on it twenty years ago. "We believe that a major reason for the increase in turnover is that American and other foreign bettors have been able to bet on the outcome via our internet sites."

Hills have cut the odds about Hillary Clinton becoming President from a pre-Election 12/1 to 5/1.

Internet sport wagering sites are one of the few places where people bet on the US Presidential Election. Las Vegas casinos prohibits wagering on US elections.

Laughlin, NV - A big progressive jackpot has been hit at the Flamingo Laughlin. While playing the progressive Wheel of Fortune slot machine, Richard Mittel (photo right) of California hit the big one on Monday, October 9. Within 20 minutes and only $20 invested in the machine, Mittlel lined up the reels just right to win the progressive jackpot of $320,459.99. While visiting Laughlin on a three-day trip, Mittel was able to strike it rich. It was a very big surprise to both Mittel and his wife, Charlene. This is the first time Mittel has ever won anything like this and he's still in shock.

TUNICA, MS - A lucky player from Arkansas won the latest instant-winner jackpot of $493,223.10 on the Betty Boop-themed wide-area progressive system October 23 at Harrah's Tunica Casino and Hotel. The player who does not want to be identified hit the jackpot on a quarter Roaring 20s game, one of seven distinct game versions in the Betty Boop's Big Hit series.

DETROIT, MI - With one lucky pull on a nickel slot machine, a MotorCity Casino patron became the ninth person to win a new car in the MotorCity "Thrill Ride" promotion November 14. The patron, who chose to remain anonymous, was playing a nickel "Reel-'em-in" machine on the casino's first floor when they were notified that they had just won a new Corvette valued at over $45,000. The lucky winner was surprised by the news as curious patrons and casino representatives surrounded them to begin the celebration. Instead of driving away with the flashy, new Corvette, the winner decided to take home a check for the car's cash equivalent of $45,705.
