Detroit Casinos To
Add More Coinless Slots
- DETROIT, MI – Following successful test runs of
cashless slot machines, gamblers will soon find more of
them at two of the city's casinos.
Greektown
Casino and MGM
Grand Detroit already have installed hundreds of slot
machines in recent months that spew out winnings in the
form of paper vouchers. And they have accelerated plans
to roll out cashless machines.
MGM
introduced 32 cashless slots in October and has since
converted another 130 nickel, quarter, half-dollar and
dollar machines. By early 2004 at least half of MGM
Grand Detroit's 2,700-slot floor will be cashless.
Meanwhile
Greektown
converted 46 of its 700 nickel slot machines to cashless
machines in August. Since Dec. 20, it has changed an additional
181 machines.
Coinless
slot machines require less labor and infrastructure than
coin machines.
California Tribe Begins
Building Casino
-MANZANITA INDIAN RESERVATION, CA – With bulldozers
scraping the hillsides, the Manzanita Indian band is quietly
pursuing an ambitious plan to turn this remote East County
reservation into a magnet for gamblers, dirt bikers and
off-road enthusiasts.
The
project is unlike any ever undertaken by a California
tribe, both in its aims and in the way it has been launched
with little or no public disclosure or governmental review.
A
Las Vegas man who describes himself as an investor and
managing partner says Manzanita intends to open two small
casinos as part of an outdoor recreation development that
will surpass Glamis.
The
goal is to attract some of the thousands of thrill-seekers
who pass by on Interstate 8 every weekend, heading out
to the desert and sand dunes of Imperial County.
Add
gambling, RV camping and a 50-acre shooting range, and
he contends that Manzanita could attract 14,000 to 20,000
people a month.
