Blackjack Arrives at Casino of the Sun - TUCSON,AZ - Four months after the Pascua Yaqui Tribe signed their state gaming compact, Casino of the Sun began dealing blackjack on May 13. Eight blackjack tables open at Casino of the Sun. Games range from low limits at $3 to high limits up to $25, with maximum wagers of $500.

Casino of the Sun is excited to round out its gaming amenities with blackjack,” said Doug Lentz, chief executive officer of Casino of the Sun. “The dealers are trained, the tables are ready and the demand for blackjack from the community has been overwhelming. We couldn’t have asked for a better response from casino patrons.”

Since approval of the compacts in January, Casino of the Sun began a free blackjack dealer training school. Dealers went through a rigorous 125-hour training course to prepare them to step onto the casino floor to start dealing. The Casino has currently trained more than 200 dealers through their free blackjack school, and plans to train and certify 100 more dealers by the end of the year. The addition of blackjack at Casino of the Sun has given the Tribe an opportunity to recruit employees from southern Arizona to fill open positions, such as blackjack dealers, supervisors
and managers.

Great Canadian Gaming Gets Final Approval for New Casino - RICHMOND, CANADA – Great Canadian Gaming Ltd. has been cleared to build a 300,000 square foot casino complex in Richmond and plans to start operations at the former Bridgepoint market site by March 2004.

Richmond city council last week approved twin bylaws allowing casino use on the riverside site where Great Canadian plans to combine gaming operations with marina, show lounge, hotel and restaurant services.

"It was one huge challenge putting this thing together and you had to have vision and patience and foresight and now we are going at it full throttle," said company president Michael Scholz. Scholz said up to about 300 slot machines will be included at the new facility.

A second bylaw passed in tandem this week effectively limits the city to just one casino, meaning that Great Canadian must close its existing facility in the city in order to open the riverside complex.
