Michigan Lottery Adds Bar Keno Game
- LANSING, MI - The Michigan Lottery says it is adding
a new keno game that people can play from bars every five
minutes.
The
new game is called Club Keno and is like games now played
in Las Vegas. It will be played in as many as 3,000 alcohol-serving
establishments statewide, starting in October. Nine states
- Massachusetts, Maryland, New York, Kansas, Georgia,
California, Oregon, Rhode Island and West Virginia - already
have games similar to Club Keno.
For
a separate game beginning in August, bars will start selling
$1 and 50 cent break-open lottery tickets that have a
top prize of $200. Players peel off paper tabs to see
if they have won a prize. Gamblers who match the maximum
of 10 numbers in Club Keno will win $100,000. Bettors
can pick just one number, which would pay $2. They have
a range of other options as well.
Todd
Boorsma of Michigan Gambling Opposition said his group
believes the Club Keno game will entice more people to
gamble and will foster addiction.
West Virginia Tracks
Net $420-Million from Slots Machines
- WEST VIRGINIA - West Virginia’s horse and dog
tracks are expected to net $420 million from overall revenue
of $713-million for the fiscal year ending next week.
The four tracks, including Mountaineer Race Track and
Charles Town Races, set a new record in May with monthly
slot revenue of $72 million, which was an increase of
68% from the same month last year, the Associated Press
reports.
John
Finamore, senior vice president of Penn National Gaming,
Charles Town’s parent company, credited the growth
to recent expansion projects that have added hundreds
of slot machines. The four tracks added about 300 slots
over the last year to 9,049 total going into June.
