Venetian Owners Honored by LV Jewish Community (from page 1) |
"Tzedaka, or charity, has always been a huge part of their lives," said David Friedman, a supporter of the Chabad and a top executive at The Venetian's parent company, who honored the Adelsons with a speech. "It is not simply writing a check. For the Adelsons, actually rolling up their sleeves and working directly with those in need is important.
"They give of their time and give of themselves in a manner that serves as an example to everyone of what it means to be a responsible member of the Las Vegas community in general, and the Jewish community in particular."
Friedman spoke further about "the many examples of anonymous acts of kindness to those in need. Many of these examples involve the Adelsons personally assisting needy individuals and helping to change their lives for the better. They help to provide a good education to kids who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford one. They take addicts off the street. They help provide a safe environment for orphans and the homeless. The list goes on and on."
The sold-out event helped to raise essential funds to help fuel the mission of Chabad of Southern Nevada. In further appreciation of their contributions to Chabad, The Chabad Center on Arville Street was recently dedicated and named in honor of Dr. and Mr. Adelson.
SPARKS, NV
- Robert Henry, 31, hit the jackpot and won $657,757.25 while playing
the progressive slot "Jackpot Bingo" at the Rail
City Casino in Sparks December 12. The jackpot is the largest jackpot
ever won in the northern Nevada casino. Originally from Orlando, FL, Henry
works as a bingo manager at another casino in Reno, NV. Henry said he
stopped by the Rail City Casino
to "kill some time'' and had played only about $20 when he lined
up B-I-N-G-O to win the progressive jackpot. "I didn't believe it!'' Henry
said when he won. He plans to use the money to pay off bills, take a vacation
and pay off his new car.
SAN
DIEGO, CA - When Rosa Maria Valenzuela (photo right), a retired
schoolteacher, first saw the number 16 flash on the video slot machine
she was playing at Barona Casino
December 10, she was excited -- she had won $1,600! Upon closer inspection,
she and her daughter grew even more excited. Wait, they had actually won
$16,000! It wasn't until the Barona
Casino video technician came to verify her jackpot that Rosa realized
the truth: she had won a $164,000 jackpot on a ten-cent machine!
