MASHANTUCKET, CT - Martha Brier became the one-millionth bus passenger to arrive at Foxwoods Resort Casino this year by a shear stroke of good luck. She received more than $1000 in Foxwoods prizes and all the other passengers on the bus joined her for a private party to celebrate the milestone.

"I'm pleasantly surprised," said Brier, who lives in West Roxbury, MA and occasionally visits Foxwoods with groups from West Roxbury or Newton, Mass. "I certainly didn't expect this." She traveled to Foxwoods today with 21 other passengers from the Leisure Group of West Roxbury.

Brier said she comes to Foxwoods mostly to socialize and watch others play. When she does play, she prefers the quiet, smoke free Slots Down Under casino.

Out of the 15 million visits to Foxwoods recorded annually, more than a million guests arrive each year by bus. More and more people are choosing to take advantage of the convenience and comfort of leaving the driving to professionals.

The first year that one million passengers arrived at Foxwoods by bus was 1997.

Brier's prize package included a weekend getaway for two at either the Grand Pequot or Great Cedar Hotel, two tickets to any show at Foxwoods, dinner for two at any Foxwoods restaurant, an assortment of t-shirts, sweatshirts, a jacket, a clock, CD's and other Foxwoods mementos.

In addition to special commemorative t-shirts, the other passengers received the highest bonus package offered at Foxwoods, a $40 value consisting of $10 food, $10 Match Play & two $10 Keno coupons, a gift bag with vouchers for our Festival Buffet, and other Foxwoods mementos.

"Tzedaka, or charity, has always been a huge part of their lives," said David Friedman, a supporter of the Chabad and a top executive at The Venetian's parent company, who honored the Adelsons with a speech. "It is not simply writing a check. For the Adelsons, actually rolling up their sleeves and working directly with those in need is important.

"They give of their time and give of themselves in a manner that serves as an example to everyone of what it means to be a responsible member of the Las Vegas community in general, and the Jewish community in particular."

Friedman spoke further about "the many examples of anonymous acts of kindness to those in need. Many of these examples involve the Adelsons personally assisting needy individuals and helping to change their lives for the better. They help to provide a good education to kids who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford one. They take addicts off the street. They help provide a safe environment for orphans and the homeless. The list goes on and on."

The sold-out event helped to raise essential funds to help fuel the mission of Chabad of Southern Nevada. In further appreciation of their contributions to Chabad, The Chabad Center on Arville Street was recently dedicated and named in honor of Dr. and Mr. Adelson.
