Majestic Star Casino Sponsors Holiday Food Drive, Children's Christmas Party

GARY, IN -- Majestic Star Casino collected over 1,000 non-perishable food items during its recent two-day food drive. Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, was the beneficiary of this first annual event. More than 300 casino guests and 77 Majestic Star employees donated non-perishable items. Everyone who contributed to the food drive received a free Majestic T-shirt.

"We were delighted to donate 17 cratefuls of non-perishable items to Second Harvest," said Chareice White, community relations manager. "Their organization assists 100 agencies in seven counties and we hope Majestic's contribution helped to make a difference during this holiday season to several families in need."

Majestic Star Casino has a long history of community involvement including charitable contributions, community sponsorship and volunteerism. The casino has contributed more than $1 million in voluntary charitable donations since opening in 1996.

In addition to the Food Drive, the casino along with Meijer Foodstores and other local companies hosted a holiday party for 100 children at the John Will Anderson Boys & Girls Club, in Buffington Harbor.

The children were selected from various local agencies including the Northwest Indiana Sickle Cell Foundation, Crisis Center, Gary Neighborhood Services Day Care Center and the John Will Anderson Boys & Girls Club. All of the agencies are associated with the Lake Area United Way. Staff members of Majestic and Meijer presented gifts and goody bags to all of the children.

"The party was very unique and a great event. We have never experienced anything of it's kind in the past", said Marcus Martin, club director of the John Will Anderson Boys & Girls Club. "The reason it was a success was because of the sponsors Majestic & Meijer. The children were overjoyed and took the time to thank the sponsors personally. Thanks to the sponsors they have truly helped to touch several lives."

Majestic Star Casino is located in Buffington Harbor in Gary, IN - just 20 minutes from Chicago.

Red Lake Band Opens Expanded Casino

WARROAD, MN - Red Lake Band of Ojibwe opened its 180-slot machine addition December 26, 2000 at Seven Clans Casino-Warroad.

The $1 million addition brings the total number of slot machines to more than 500 at Seven Clans Casino-Warroad, formerly known as Lake of the Woods Casino.

WWF Sells Hotel and Casino - STAMFORD, CT -- World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc. announced December 26 the sale of the WWF Hotel and Casino located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The net proceeds from the sale are approximately $11.2 million and are net of closing costs and other selling expenses. The property was purchased in the second quarter of fiscal year 1999 and classified as an asset held for sale on the balance sheet. The company expects to record a gain of approximately $1 million.

Viejas Casino To Have 2,000 Installed Slot Machines - ALPINE, CA.-- Patrons at Viejas Casino will see an expanse of 2,000 slot machines as well as other games in the 238,000-square-foot casino starting January 1. Nearly 1,700 of the slot machines are coin operated, while approximately 300 will continue to print vouchers. Those voucher machines are being converted so guests can either cash in their vouchers or re-insert them and continue playing. Located at 5000 Willows Road in Alpine, CA Viejas Casino is owned by the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians.

Detroit Mayor Confident Riverfront Casinos On Track - /GamingWire/ - A spokesman for Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer said plans to put the city's three land-based casinos on permanent sites along the Detroit River are on track.

The mayor believes the city's plans are on track despite a legislative bill intended to ban riverfront casinos and skyrocketing land prices."We will have a permanent casino hotel complex," Archer's press secretary Greg Bowens said. "Everything is on track."

Rep. Hansen Clarke, D-Detroit, plans to introduce a bill in January that would derail Archer's plans for a $2 billion casino corridor along 50 acres of east riverfront property. Clarke said the land is better suited for homes, retail shopping centers and family entertainment venues.

The lawmaker's pushing his bill on behalf of the East Riverfront Alliance, a homeowners group that claims the casino project will disrupt the integrity of the neighborhood.
