Hard Rock Cafe
International, owners of the Hard
Rock Hotel & Casino, broke ground January 8, on a new Hotel
and Casino Resort in Hollywood, FL.
A partnership
with the Seminole Tribe of Florida and the Cordish Company calls
for the construction of two new Seminole Hard Rock Hotels and Casinos
one in Hollywood, Fla. and the other in Tampa, Fla.
"This agreement
with the Seminole Tribe supports our global plan to extend the Hard
Rock brand name beyond our core business and into the real estate,
gaming, leisure and hotel sectors," said Scott Little, CFO and senior
vice president, strategic planning, Hard Rock Cafe International.
"This is obviously a very exciting time for us as we enter our 30th
year. Our unmatched success in theme dining and entertainment has
always focused on delivering an exceptional guest experience and
this project will be no exception."
The new Hard
Rock Hotel and Casinos in Hollywood and Tampa, Fla. are part of
a $400 million project planned for the Seminole reservations. Completion
of both projects is slated for the end of 2002.
The Hard Rock
Hotel and Casino Tampa agreement calls for the development and construction
of a new four-star hotel and gaming resort situated on the Seminole
Reservation in Ybor City. The new hotel will consist of 200 guestrooms,
a Hard Rock Cafe or nightclub, a large pool, pool bar and beach
club, a 24-hour restaurant, a gaming facility, and a new parking
facility. The casino will feature a center bar and Hard Rock Cafe's
signature music memorabilia.
The Hard Rock
Hotel and Casino Hollywood will be on the Seminole Reservation,
located in Hollywood, Fla. The resort will consist of 750 guest
rooms, a gaming facility with a center bar, a Hard Rock Cafe, a
1,000 seat Hard Rock Live venue, a premium health spa and extensive
beach club including an oversized pool and pool bar, substantial
upscale independent restaurant, as well as a Hard Rock retail store
selling Hard Rock branded merchandise.

Opens in German Airport
LONDON,
ENGLAND - Europe's first airport casino opened January 5 in Frankfurt,
Germany to give weary travelers a different way of enduring travel
delays.
"There
is a trend in Europe for more gambling, and people waiting for
planes now have something other to do than go to the bar," said
casino manager Rolf Schumacher as he opens up the roulette and
card tables and slot machines.

If
the venture is successful more airport casinos could be opened
within a year at Heathrow Airport in London.
