Tropicana Casino and Resort Unveils
Newest Work of Art

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- A realistic three-story mural depicting Old Havana, Cuba was created exclusively for the Tropicana by local artist Michael Irvin of Irvin Studios in Egg Harbor Twp, NJ. Irvin's inspiration for the mural was Tropicana's $265 million expansion, The Quarter, which is slated to open in the Fall of 2004. Reminiscent of old Havana, The Quarter at Tropicana is a 250,000-square-feet complex of signature restaurants, unique entertainment venues, distinctive retail shops and spa experiences.

"It's a true work of art with an incredible level of detail," said Dennis C. Gomes, president, Resort Operations, Aztar. "The mural `begs' you to find new items each time you view it. If you look closely, there's even a real working clock with moving hands on the Havana clock tower. Take special note to the name of the cigar store, Ana Ciport, its Tropicana spelled backwards!"

Measuring 660-square-feet, or 28'x23', the mural depicts a Havana neighborhood with retail shops, cobble stone walks and buildings with their own distinct designs. It took the team of artists six days to draw an 18-foot section of the mural. To add to the realism, Irvin researched architecture in Havana only to find that the city was never built on a grid like most cities. Creatively, the artist was able to mimic the city by using a nine-point perspective approach, and the final result is absolutely amazing.

The Quarter includes three levels of more than 40 dining, entertainment, shopping and spa options. Also, not to mention a new 502-guest room hotel tower with 45,000-square-feet of additional meeting space and a 2,400 space parking garage. Upon its completion and when combined with the existing property, Tropicana will become the largest hotel in the state of New Jersey. The Quarter and Tropicana will provide visitors with three-times the dining, entertainment, shopping and spa options than any other hotel casino in Atlantic City.

Taiwan Casino Plan Proposed
As reported by The eTaiwan News

TAIWAN - As reported by the eTaiwan News: "A proposal by Vice President Annette Lu to develop the offshore county of Penghu into a gambling center has sent ripples among the people living there, who have long been keen on seeking ways to improve their livelihoods.

"Penghu County Magistrate Lai Feng-wei contended yesterday that the proposal needs to be further studied and elaborated upon. Lai expressed his hope that more tourist facilities and a special duty free zone can be established in the island county to attract a larger number of Taiwan and foreign tourists, including those from China.

"…Lai called for a partial opening to allow in Chinese tourists in the initial stage and for construction of a duty free zone to lure more tourists, in line with the central government's goal of doubling the number of tourist arrivals to Taiwan by 2008.

"Turning to the issue of developing gambling in Penghu, Lai was neutral, but he voiced his concern over the profound complications in many areas that could result from such a move.

"Penghu's friendly environment for both children and the elderly, as well as its good public order and unique local flavor will disappear if gambling is permitted on the island, Lai claimed, adding that such a major issue must be assessed and projected thoroughly…"
