JACKSON, MS - Members of the Mississippi Gaming Association (MGA), the industry's statewide trade organization, recently contributed $10,000 to the Central Mississippi Chapter of the American Red Cross for its ongoing efforts to support the victims of the disaster in East Mississippi. "Specific contributions were provided by Fitzgerald's Casino, Horseshoe Casino and Hotel, Gold Strike Casino-Resort in Tunica County; Hollywood Casino in Tunica County, Ameristar in Vicksburg, MS, Beau Rivage Resort, Biloxi, MS and Isle of Capri Resorts,'' said Andy Bourland, executive director of the MGA. "The MGA members are committed to working closely with state organizations that provide direct relief and support to the people of Mississippi,'' said Andy Bourland, executive director of the MGA. "The Red Cross has always played a pivotal role in helping disaster victims. I believe the gaming industry has always tried to lend a helping hand to those in need whenever possible,'' he added. The MGA has historically supported the Red Cross locally as well as on a statewide basis in Mississippi. The industry contributed $16,000 to the Red Cross for victims of Hurricane Georges in 1999. The American Red Cross responds to disasters by opening shelters, preparing and serving meals and snacks and mobilizing trained disaster relief workers to provide these and others services without delay. Red Cross also provided affected families with vouchers for food, clothing, prescription medications and other disaster caused needs. |

LAS VEGAS, NV - "B-I-N-G-O'' spelled big money to a Michigan man playing Casino Data Systems's Jackpot Bingo(TM) at the Little River Casino in Manistee, MI, March 1. Jerry Park of Lake City, MI, won $284,648.68 when he hit the linked progressive jackpot. Park said he and his wife Julie had played only about $20 on the nickel game when he hit it big. At first he wasn't sure what had happened, then a woman playing next to him pointed out his big win. His wife had previously played the same machine on February 26, and he felt it was a lucky one. Park, a Michigan native, works as a warehouseman and his wife is a registered nursing assistant. They said they visit the Little River Casino a couple of times a week, and this is their first big win. Jerry said he plans to buy a new truck with his winnings. HENDERSON, NV - Kathryn Korpi of Phoenix, AZ hit a jackpot of $739,939 on a quarter Wheel of Fortune slot machine at Sunset Station Hotel Casino March 4.
Merrill started with $20 in the machine and was on her last two coins when she hit the jackpot on a dollar "Roaring 20s" game, one of seven distinct game versions in the Betty Boop's Big Hit series. |
