St. Lucia to open first casino

CASTRIES, St. Lucia - St. Lucian authorities have approved plans for the first casino in the eastern Caribbean island, hoping to boost the country's vital tourist industry.

The casino, which will include 350 slot machines and 14 gaming tables, is scheduled to open by December, according to the management company, Treasure Bay Corp LLC of Biloxi, Mississippi.

Treasure Bay said the 15,000 square-foot (4,500 square-meter) casino would be built 16 kilometres (10 miles) north of the capital, Castries, and would employ 300 full-time workers.

"We are very excited to be working with Treasure Bay, St Lucia, Ltd in a partnership to enhance the amenities on St Lucia," said Peter Foster, the mayor of Castries and an attorney for the casino. "We look forward to seeing the final product and to their assistance in further boosting our economy."

In the past, casino proposals have been opposed by religious leaders and the St Lucia Labour Party when it was in the opposition. But the SLP, which has been the ruling party since 1997, later reversed its position on the issue.

UNCASVILLE, Connecticut - The legendary rock group Bon Jovi was inducted into Mohegan Sun's Walk of Fame on Wednesday, February 1, 2006. The event helped to celebrate their second sold-out show of the "Have A
Nice Day" tour at the venue.

Bon Jovi formed in 1984, breaking through to amazing success in 1986 with the album Slippery When Wet which yielded two #1 singles -- "You Give Love A Bad Name" and "Livin' On A Prayer." To date, Bon Jovi has played more than 2500 concerts in 50 countries, and has sold more than 100 million albums world-wide. Their latest CD Have A Nice Day was released in late 2005, and the tireless rock stars have been out on the road playing to packed houses since then. Since 2003, Bon Jovi has played three separate concerts at Mohegan Sun for a total of nearly 25,000 fans.

Over the past nine years, Mohegan Sun has grown to become the Northeast's premier entertainment destination, and to recognize those individuals who have made significant contributions to the company's success, Mohegan Sun has developed the "Mohegan Sun Walk of Fame." Tim McGraw was the first inductee in 2004; Rod Stewart and Alan Jackson were honored in 2005. Country's new supergroup Rascal Flatts was recently inducted on January 27, 2006. All individuals inducted into the "Mohegan Sun Walk of Fame" will have their name engraved in a plaque that will be permanently placed at the entrance to the Mohegan Sun Arena.
