Boyd Gaming To Acquire
Louisiana Horse Track

LAS VEGAS, NV - Boyd Gaming Corporation announced April 26 that it will buy a Louisiana racetrack for $115 million to $125 million and will spend another $30 million to refurnish the property and install a casino with slot machines there.

The property is located three miles from Interstate 10 just over the Taxes border. When the casino opens, it will be the closest casino currently available to the Southeast Texas market, including the Houston metropolitan area.

The Delta Downs facility, located on over 200 acres, now includes an 82,000 square-foot, four-story clubhouse, with seating capacity for approximately 2,600, and total capacity for nearly 5,000 viewers; a fine dining restaurant and other food and beverage outlets; a three-quarter mile-long thoroughbred track, and parking for several thousand vehicles. The master plan for the attached casino facility, which is presently under construction, will include a themed casino area, a 670-seat buffet, and the House of Jazz Sports Bar. In addition to the casino operation, Boyd Gaming plans to continue to offer live thoroughbred and quarter horse racing 80 to 90 days a year.

The transaction is expected to close at the end of May, pending certain regulatory, financing and other approvals as well as customary closing conditions.

Headquartered in Las Vegas, Boyd Gaming Corporation owns and operates 11 casino entertainment properties located in Nevada, Mississippi, Illinois, Indiana and Louisiana.

Mexico's President Fox Supports Casinos - MEXICO CITY - Mexican President Vicente Fox says he supports the legalization of casinos as a way to raise government income and boost tourism. "Yes, I'm in favor (of legalizing casinos), in a controlled, supervised manner, above all in places visited by foreigners,'' Fox said April 24 at a tourism fair in Acapulco. Underground betting flourishes in Mexico, but casinos are prohibited. Betting is currently allowed at official booths at dog and horse racing tracks, and some bookmakers are authorized to place odds on some sports events. Proponents say legalizing casinos in the country could generate some $500 million a year in tax income alone. Fox sent a package of reforms to Congress this month, seeking to boost government income and reduce Mexico's dependence on unpredictable oil income.

Rock 'n' Rivalry
Sibling Relationships Stir
Black Crows and Oasis

The Tour of Brotherly Love, starring the Black Crows and Oasis -- which kicks off at the Hard Rock Hotel Casino May 11 -- is well-named, offering a wink on many levels.

Since the British invasion back in 1964, fans have often favored the music of one or the other side of the Atlantic. Bands, too, have tended to segregate by nationality. Try to imagine an American joining the Rolling Stones or a Brit donning leather and being christened Ramone. More to the point: Oasis and Black Crowes both have acted at times like a feuding family. Then there is the fact that at the heart of each group is a pair of brothers who've had the occasional bout of sibling rivalry.

SHOWTIME: May 11
