West Virginia table gaming referendum bill signed
Press Release

MTR Gaming Group, Inc. (NasdaqGS:MNTG) today announced that Governor Joe Manchin signed a bill providing for local referenda by which each of the four West Virginia counties having racetracks may authorize table gaming at that county's racetrack. The bill was approved during the recently concluded legislative session. The bill, HB 2718, permits table games provided that the racetrack's home county passes a referendum approving such games. MTR will pursue such a referendum in Hancock County, WV at the earliest practicable date.

Edson R. (Ted) Arneault, CEO of MTR Gaming Group, stated, "We are thrilled that the Legislature passed this bill and that Governor Manchin has signed it into law, reserving to the people of Hancock County the final say. If the voters approve table games, our plan is to add approximately 50 table games and 40 poker tables at Mountaineer. The addition of table games will also create approximately 500 jobs in Hancock County, an area suffering high unemployment due to a struggling steel industry.

"Initially, the tables at Mountaineer would be situated within our existing facility allowing a relatively fast start-up. We are enthusiastic about the prospect of offering table gaming to our existing customers, as well as drawing new customers who enjoy table games, and improving Mountaineer's overall competitive position."

Caesars Atlantic City dealers vote for union
As reported by The Press of Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. –
"A sweeping majority of table games dealers at Caesars Atlantic City approved unionization with United Auto Workers, making them the city's first casino dealers to join a union.

"The vote, which was made public Sunday and included keno and simulcast workers, passed 572-128 and affects about 860 full- and part-time employees.

"A spokeswoman for Harrah's Entertainment Inc., which owns Caesars, said the casino company will challenge the results and accused the union of threatening employees to vote for unionization. The company wants another vote.

"The response came less than 12 hours after votes were tallied late Saturday night, setting the stage for the National Labor Relations Board — an independent federal agency — to consider the casino company's objections.

"…On March 31, dealers at Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino will participate in a similar vote…"

Mississippi casinos bouncing back
As reported by The Biloxi Sun Herald

"The Mississippi State Tax Commission reported gross gambling revenue of $109.6 million last month, edging out the previous post-storm high of $109.59 million, set in September.

"Four holiday events converged in one weekend to help make February a good month. Chinese New Year, President's Day and the weekend before Mardi Gras occurred simultaneously.

"…Statewide, revenue for February totaled $247.97 million. That compares to $197.94 milllion last February and $244.98 million in February 2005.
