Bette Midler signs Caesar's Palace deal

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Thar she blows! Bette Midler today officially announced that she is headed for Las Vegas. The legendary sensation has signed on with entertainment promoter AEG Live for a minimum two year deal as the new resident artist at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace starting in February 2008. When asked about her upcoming run in Las Vegas -- The Divine Miss M had this to say.

"Get ready Vegas 'cause here I come! Caesars Palace will never be the same and to all those critics who have accused me of being 'tacky,' 'too much' and 'over the top' I say, you ain't seen nuthin' yet!"

The show, which is scheduled to premiere on February 20, 2008, will be the biggest, most imaginative production Bette Midler has ever done. With plenty of girls, gags and guffaws, her incomparable humor, the best song catalogue in American music and her fabulous "Kiss My Brass" section, audiences will be treated to an experience that can only be referred to as "divine."

"All of us at AEG Live are ecstatic about working with Bette and look forward to the fun and success we are going to have together on this project," said John Meglen, Co-CEO and President of AEG Live/Concerts West. Bette Midler will perform approximately one hundred shows a year at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The show will be presented at 7:30 p.m. five nights a week and will be dark on Monday and Thursday. MGM Mirage could be pushed to leave AC

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - "An investigation by New Jersey regulators into MGM Mirage's business dealings in Macau could result in the gambling behemoth's exit from Atlantic City, an analyst said yesterday.

"In a note to investors, UBS analyst Robin Farley said she believes the Division of Gaming Enforcement, which has been conducting an investigation into MGM's Macau partnership for the past year and a half, may raise concerns about the company's partner, Pansy Ho, the daughter of Asian gambling tycoon Stanley Ho.

"…In what Farley called a worst-case scenario, she said the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, which acts as a judge in licensing matters, could decide Pansy Ho's affiliation with her father is 'too close to make her an appropriate partner for a New Jersey license holder.'

"MGM could then be faced with a choice: Leave Macau, which last year surpassed Las Vegas with $7 billion in gambling revenue, or Atlantic City, the $5 billion casino market where it co-owns Borgata and holds 90 acres of land.

"…MGM's $1.1 billion Macau casino is slated to open later this year…"

Feds: Turning Stone Casino won't be shut down

VERONA, N.Y. - "The federal gaming commission responsible for overseeing and monitoring casinos said it does not plan to shut down Turning Stone Resort and Casino at this time.

"Its statement came a day after New York state and the Oneida Indian Nation failed to meet the Monday deadline set by the federal government to jointly declare they've begun negotiating a new gaming compact.

"…The Department of the Interior is reconsidering the approval of the compact allowing the Nation to open the casino and will announce by June 14 its ruling on how or whether the casino can continue to operate.

"However, officials say the fate of the Turning Stone Resort and Casino remains in question, along with the thousands of jobs it provides. Some local officials are calling for the casino to close, saying the facility is operating under an illegal gaming compact. Others say the state's 1993 gaming compact with the Nation should be considered legal…"
