Park Place Installs
Coin-Free Slot Machines
- LOS ANGELES, CA - Park Place Entertainment Corp. said
on June 19 it will install 15,000 coinless slot machines
at its Nevada and Atlantic City casinos, a pioneering
move that other major casinos could follow, and a boon
for slot machine maker International Game Technology.
The
three-year agreement makes Park Place the first major
casino operator to install the new coinless slot machines
at its properties.
Park
Place said it would install the machines -- which give
gamblers a paper ticket redeemable for cash or usable
in other machines upon cashing out -- at eight of its
properties. Those include the company's Caesars and Bally's
casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, and Paris Las
Vegas.
Installation
of the systems and gaming machines will begin this year
and is scheduled for completion no later than December
31, 2004.
The
EZ Pay(TM) system allows operators to utilize IGT's new
EZ Play Multi-Denomination(TM) games, so players may select
the game denomination -- from one cent up to $25 -- on
a single machine. Players can still insert bills or coins
to start playing and can change their wager without the
bother of collecting and converting coins when they cash
out.
New
York Plans Two Seneca Casinos
- NEW YORK, NY - The state of New York has announced an
agreement with the Seneca Indian Nation to open two casinos
in Niagara Falls and Buffalo on June 21. Business interests
have pressured the New York governor and the state legislature
to bring casino gambling to the Niagara Falls-Buffalo
area in the wake of a highly successful casino that opened
several years ago in Niagara Falls, Ont. "These casinos
will provide a major boost to the economy of western New
York by allowing us to compete with our Canadian neighbors,"
says Gov. George Pataki. Before the casinos can open,
three steps must be taken: a referendum by members of
the Seneca Nation of Indians, state legislation, and federal
approval of the sites. Pataki and Seneca President Cyrus
Schindler say they are confident the conditions for the
new casinos would be met.
