The Casino de Hull
Opens Non-Smoking Areas
- HULL, CANADA - Effective July 6, the Casino
de Hull becomes a non-smoking establishment, with
the exception of one gaming area that is reserved for
smokers. By implementing this major change, the casino
becomes one of the few facilities of its kind in Canada
that almost entirely prohibits smoking. "Practically the
entire gaming area will become non-smoking, except for
a new section where smoking will be permitted,'' explained
Michel Belley, General Manager of the Casino
de Hull. "We reached this decision after much deliberation,
taking into account the opinions expressed by both our
non- smoking and smoking clientele.''
The
Casino
de Hull features 1,870 slot machines and 64 gaming
tables, and can accommodate 6,200 people.
Las Vegas Casino Owner
To Build Border City Gaming Complex
- LAS VEGAS, NV - A Las Vegas casino owner wants to build
a gambling complex in Reynosa, Mexico, across the border
from McAllen, Texas.
Bill
Wortman, a partner in the Nevada Palace hotel-casino,
said he and Mexican partners would spend $100 million
to build a casino and 18-hole golf course in the community
of nearly 1 million people.
The
project needs approval from the Mexican government, which
has opposed legalizing gambling.
However,
Mexican President Vicente Fox, who was elected last year,
has said he would support legalized gambling in areas
frequented by foreign tourists.
The
project would open with a temporary casino costing significantly
less than the ultimate $100 million price tag, Wortman
said, noting that he and his partner Renate Schiff could
pay for the first phase on their own.
When
fully developed, the casino project would include a 400-room
hotel, golf course and spa.
Wortman
declined to speculate when construction could begin, pointing
to the country's uncertain political environment.
