Kickapoo Tribe Breaks
Ground for Grand Casino

The Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas broke ground October 1 at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino outside Eagle Pass, TX.

The historic groundbreaking signifies not only the start of an enormous expansion of the casino, but also better economic times for the tribe, for Eagle Pass, for the area along the Rio Grande on both sides of the Texas-Mexico border and eventually for the state.

Four years ago, living conditions for the 800-member tribe improved substantially with the opening of the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino, one of only two gaming casinos in the entire state of Texas. The casino currently provides employment for about 160 people.

Before that time, life was grim for members of the tribe, who worked mainly as migrant farm laborers. The director of the reservation's Head Start preschool program estimated in 1996 that most of the families subsisted on about $7,000 a year, and some survived on as little as $1,700 annually.

Building the casino, whose stock in trade is poker and high-stakes bingo, gave the tribe a foothold on the first rung of the ladder to financial security. The expansion will give them a substantial advantage -- to better jobs, housing, educational opportunities, health care for the tribal members, especially the elderly, and a decent living standard.

Construction will begin soon on a new road that will lead to the planned 100,000-square-foot casino and auditorium, luxury hotel with 75 to 150 units, and 18-hole golf course.

The expansion and added amenities bode well to make Eagle Pass and the reservation of the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas a prime tourist destination for the 10 million people who live within a 200-mile radius in the United States and Mexico.

Foxwoods To Build Premium Casino Atop Its Grand Pequot Tower

Building on the success of its high-end casino, Club Newport International, and the appeal of its luxurious villas, Foxwoods Resort Casino has begun construction of one of the most elegant, intimate and exclusive casinos anywhere. The new casino, scheduled to open before the end of the year, will be markedly upscale and offer the highest level of service for discerning clientele on the 24th and 25th floors of the Grand Pequot Tower.

"Our newest addition will be the jewel in the crown of Foxwoods,''
Bill Sherlock, Foxwoods president and CEO.

It will feature a personalized gaming room with 10 tables for Blackjack, Baccarat and single zero Roulette. A salon for the discrete player will have two tables and offer the ultimate in privacy, bringing the total number of gaming tables in the as-yet-unnamed casino to 12. It will also offer a cocktail lounge and a gourmet restaurant on the floor below the casino that will accommodate 65 guests.

Foxwoods is constructing a high-end gaming salon atop of the 24th and 25th floors of its Grand Pequot Tower.

"Our newest addition will be the jewel in the crown of Foxwoods,'' said Bill Sherlock, president and CEO. "Every detail in this new casino will reflect our commitment to offer the best experience guests can find, and our determination to exceed their expectations.''

Both rooms will offer views of the surrounding woodlands and fields and allow guests to see as far away as Fisher's Island in Long Island Sound and Montauk, N.Y. on Long Island.

Richly-textured furnishings, inlaid wood veneers and hand painted ceiling murals will surround a huge globe of the Earth suspended between the two floors. Due to its location at the top of the elegant Grand Pequot Tower, the new casino will be the pinnacle space at Foxwoods.

With more than 5,800 slot machines and 350 table games, Foxwoods Resort Casino is the largest casino in North America. It also offers an array of fine dining restaurants and live entertainment with headliners from around the world. Located in Mashantucket, CT, it is the ancestral home of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

Reno, NV -- Pattie Stewart and her husband Vernon say they were due for some rest and relaxation and they thought Atlantis would be the perfect spot for their weekend getaway from Virginia City. Little did they know, their weekend trip would create a lot more excitement than rest. Pattie was playing a 'Hot Peppers' $1 slot machine and had put in about $200 when hit for $70,000 . "I was really shaken when I found out I won $70,000. I even cried," Pattie said. The jackpot came at a very deserving time for Pattie. She says she has been unemployed since she had an accident at work that caused her to have surgery. She says the money will help a lot with her current situation.

Uncasville, CT -- A Newington, CT patron hit an "Audio Daily Double" when she won over $1.5million at 7am on October 3 on one of Mohegan Sun's Jeopardy! 25-cent progressive slot machines. The winner had invested only $30.00 when the machine hit the jackpot. The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, came to Mohegan Sun because, "We like Mohegan Sun, it's our favorite casino." She felt that it "was her lucky day." She said she plans to buy a new car, spend some on her daughters and take a nice trip.

Mashantucket, CT -- Lucille Feustel of Bay Shore, N.Y., is the latest instant-winner jackpot of $305,954.38 on the Betty Boop-themed progressive system Sunday, Oct. 8 at Foxwoods Resort Casino. Feustel hit the jackpot on a $1 "Double Jackpot" game. The payout marked the seventh time it has hit at Foxwoods.

Las Vegas, NV -- A Las Vegas woman became Nevada's first winner of a Addams Family MegaJackpot on September 26 at the recently opened Suncoast Casino. Asking to be identified only as Debbie R., the winner walked away with a check for $278,423 on the instant pay video slot game. Since she often bowls at other Coast Resort properties, she decided this evening to "check out" the Suncoast, which opened Sept. 12. She said that she had invested $50 in the nickel machine and was down to her last $10 when she hit the jackpot. She says she plans to share her good fortune with her family and use it to make dreams come true.
