Harrah's Closes Some
Vegas Restaurants
- LAS VEGAS, NV - Casino operator Harrah's Entertainment
Inc. announced on September 25 that it closed some restaurants
at its Los Vegas properties due to slower business following
the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
Harrah's
said the closings were temporary, but have affected 160
workers. The company said it projects business to be softer
than expected in Las Vegas if airline passenger traffic
remains at reduced levels.
For
the five days following the attacks, combined gaming revenues
for its two Las Vegas properties fell about 39 percent
compared with the same five days in 2000. In the five
days ended Sept. 22, the combined revenue decline narrowed
to about 7 percent below the year-ago period.
At
its two Atlantic City, New Jersey, properties, gaming
revenues declined about 23 percent versus a year ago for
the five days ended Sept. 15, Harrah's said.
