Stamp Shows A.C. Casino
Tower & Beach

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - Never mind the Turnpike, Lucy the Elephant or Bruce Springsteen.

As far as the U.S. Postal Service is concerned, New Jersey is the casino-dominated Atlantic City skyline and the beach.

The Postal Service's new "Greetings From New Jersey" stamp, which was unveiled on November 30, consists of an artist's rendition of the Atlantic City skyline, a sunbather sitting by the ocean in the foreground.

The 34-cent stamp, part of a new "Greetings From America" set, will be available beginning in April, 2002. The stamp is part of a "Greetings From America" series the Postal Service is issuing.

The stamps resemble miniature versions of the "Greetings From ..." postcards that were popular in the 1930s and 1940s.

The stamps, which highlight what each of the states is famous for, will help boost tourism and are bound to be popular with stamp collectors, a spokesman said.

The only real-life Atlantic City building clearly discernible on the stamp is the

Bally's Atlantic City casino hotel tower.

But the neon signs of the city's glittering casinos are absent.
