Casinos
Want Lower Admission Requirements for High Rollers
RENO, NV - The
Nevada Gaming Control Board endorsed a proposal on December 5 to
scale back the minimum bet requirement to $500 in private casino
salons dedicated to high rolling gamblers.
Until this year,
Nevada required all gambling to be open to the public, but casinos
argued that they needed the private salons to attract high-rolling
gamblers. The minimum bet in the private rooms started out at $20,000,
but was later dropped to $3,000.
Now lawyers
for the Nevada Resort Association maintain that a $500 minimum bet
requirement will give casinos more flexibility, which they need
after the drop in business following the Sept. 11 attacks.
Industry representatives
suggest a minimum of $50,000 in cash and credit for admittance to
the private salons. However, the board's proposal - which must be
approved by the Nevada Gaming Commission - requires a minimum of
$1 million in cash and credit for admittance. "The $50,000 line
of credit in my opinion didn't identify the high-end gambler," said
GCB member Bobby Siller. "I could qualify for that - as a government
servant."
