U.S. Billionaire Dreams of Casino in Millennium Dome - LONDON, UK - Billionaire Philip Anschutz, the 16th wealthiest man in the U.S., would like to run a Las Vegas-style casino inside the Millennium Dome in Britain, turning the Greenwich site, southeast of London, into a sports and entertainment area surrounded by 5,000 new homes, bars, restaurants and hotels.

The Millennium Dome is the world's biggest dome, which was built on the Prime Meridian Line in Greenwich to celebrate the advent of the new millennium. The Anschutz group, which backs some of America's most popular sporting teams, aims to find a partner acceptable to the British public and Greenwich council, which has yet to grant planning permission for the resort.

Park Place Entertainment of Las Vegas is said to be among the companies being considered by Anschutz, "but there have been no detailed discussions between Anschutz Entertainment Group and Park Place or any organization regarding casino or gaming facilities on the Greenwich peninsula," says Detleff Kornett, the European head of Anschutz.

Park Place has made no secret of its desire to expand into Britain if the 1968 gaming laws are loosened, but until then, a Park Place spokeswoman in Las Vegas said it was "premature" to expect any business alliances in U.K. ventures.
