Allegiant Air Provides Charter Flights
To Harrah's Properties

LAUGHLIN, NV - Allegiant Air announced on Feb. 12 that it has reached a two-year agreement with Harrah's Hotel and Casino properties to provide MD-87 jet charter flights to Laughlin, Nevada from cities across the U.S.

The flights will operate daily except Tuesday over the term of the agreement, with arriving passengers staying as guests at Harrah's Casino & Hotel in Laughlin.

"We are extremely pleased that an outstanding organization like Harrah's has selected Allegiant Air to provide their charter operations,'' said Maurice J. Gallagher, the airline's Chairman. "This new agreement represents the expansion of a business relationship we have had with Harrah's over the past few years during which we provided charters on an ad hoc basis. Harrah's was looking for the operating performance capabilities provided by the MD-87 and we were able to acquire the appropriate aircraft for the mission. The MD-87 is capable of flying non-stop from any city in the U.S. to Laughlin.''

"Allegiant Air's reputation for safe, reliable, on-time operations and its acquisition of the MD-87 aircraft were key factors in reaching this long-term agreement,'' said Bill Keena, General Manager for Harrah's Laughlin. ``Allegiant's new MD-87 aircraft is ideally suited for our Laughlin flights. For many years, now, we have brought our guests from communities throughout the country, and with the MD-87 we can provide them with convenient, non-stop service. We are pleased that Allegiant has selected this aircraft for their fleet expansion.''

Allegiant Air recently acquired two, modern Boeing MD-87 jet aircraft that have enabled the company to make a major expansion of its charter and scheduled airline operations, including the Harrah's charter service.

The MD-87s, a Stage III aircraft meeting reduced noise emission standards for take-off and landing, is configured to seat 130 passengers with a crew of two pilots and three flight attendants.

and charter airline operations throughout the U.S. The Company also has authority for charter service to Canada and Mexico.

Allegiant Air's scheduled airline service includes daily non-stop flights between Fresno and Las Vegas utilizing the carriers' 83 passenger DC-9-21 for those flights. The airline recently announced it will inaugurate scheduled service to Colorado Springs, Colo. on February 14, with non-stop service to Las Vegas.

Headquartered in Fresno, California, the privately owned airline is under the majority control of Maurice J. Gallagher, an airline industry veteran, who acquired his interest in the company last year.

Greece To Ban All Electronic Gaming Machines - ATHENS, GREECE - To stop the rapid spread of illegal gambling machines, the government of Greece plans to ban all electronic games from arcades, including even motor racing and soccer simulators. In Greece, gambling is allowed only in state-licensed casinos; but bar and arcade owners have been converting game machines into illegal gambling machines that pay out cash instead of bonus playing time. Even the chairman of the parliamentary committee on gambling, Alekos Chrisanthakopoulos, was filmed playing on the illegal machines, and was promptly kicked out of the ruling socialist party. “We don't want to have illegal gambling in Greece. We are banning all electronic games," said government spokesman Christos Protopapas Thursday. "We wanted a clean decision...and the decision is no electronic games.” A draft bill is expected to be tabled in the parliament at the beginning of March and promptly voted on. Greek authorities will remove thousands of gaming machines from hotels, cafés, arcades and other venues.

Atlantic City Makes Cents on Presidents Day - ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - The biggest moneymaking holiday for the Atlantic City casino industry is Presidents Day weekend. Atlantic City casino officials say the combination of good weather and the opportunity to take a cheap vacation close to home led to a record three-day weekend in the town. "It's cabin fever, that's what it is," surmises Timothy Ebling, the Sands' chief financial officer. "After the (year-end) holidays, people get kind of exhausted then sit around for a month and a half. People have to get outside and this is an opportunity to get out.” David Jonas, Harrah’s general manager, says that the casino possibly raked in record revenues last weekend. Trump Taj Mahal also enjoyed one of its best weekends ever. Taj gamblers lost $2.5 million on the slot machines on both Saturday and Sunday, just shy of the casino's all-time record. Other holidays can sometimes match or beat Presidents Day weekend in terms of gambling volume, but only if the weather's good and they fall on a Monday or Friday. However, Presidents Day weekend is consistently the biggest moneymaker.
