Arthur Goldberg, head of Park Place Entertainment dies at 58LAS VEGAS, NV -- Arthur Goldberg, the president and CEO of Park Place Entertainment Corp. whose company owns such landmark properties as Caesars Palace, the Flamingo Hilton and Bally's Hotel Casino, died suddenly October 19 at the age of 58 from complications from bone marrow failure. Goldberg is credited as the man who built Park Place Entertainment into one of gaming's most powerful corporations. Goldberg had a strong hand in creating and building the $785-million Paris Las Vegas Hotel-Casino. Goldberg was "a true leader, visionary, and builder of great companies," said Park Place Chairman Stephen Bollenbach. "He has left behind the biggest, best and most financially healthy gaming company in the world. He was a great friend to me and I will miss his warmth, energy, commitment, and leadership." "Arthur Goldberg was a man of extraordinary energy and courage. This energy and courage allowed him to build a great company and a legacy which will go on for a long time," said Steve Wynn, former owner of Mirage. Park Place Entertainment owns and operates 28 gaming properties in six states and five countries.

Las Vegas, NV - Excalibur guest Robert W. Schlichter of Cincinnati, Ohio struck it rich over the weekend playing the "Wheel of Fortune" slot machine. Schlichter who has worked in the service industry for 26 years is married to Karen. Together the Schlichter's have three children: Julie, Chris, and Jennifer. Schlichter feels "great" about winning nearly a Million dollars at Excalibur and plans to visit again next year. Hankinson, ND - Elizabeth Hoyer of Morris, Minnesota, a member of the Dakota Magic Players club decided to visit Dakota Magic Casino and Hotel on the players club, "double point day". She told her husband she was going to 'win enough money to buy new carpet'. She did! Mrs. Hoyer won $135,482.00 on the ELVIS Progressive slot machine. Fort Yates, ND - Sheldon, a professional fisherman from Bismarck, caught himself a $37,500 win at Prairie Knights Casino & Lodge September 22, 2000. He was at the Casino for the Walleye Tournament, which he placed sixth in last year, when he decided to hit the slots before two intense days on the lake. He ended up hooking the jackpot on the $25 Five Times Pay machine for $37,500! He plans on spending his money on a new truck. |
