WACO, TX - Mary Hollingsworth, of Waco, an algebra teacher for 27 years, has made plans to retire after winning $3,555,293.44 on June 24 playing a Wheel of Fortune slot machine at the Boomtown Casino and Hotel in Bossier City, LA.

The Texas school teacher arrived at the hotel and her room wasn’t ready. However, if it had been, her good fortune could have gone to another player. "I was waiting for my room to be ready, so I had some time to kill and I had been playing for about 10 minutes when it happened," says Hollingsworth. "I had put in $120 and then on the next pull, it happened. I knew I had won when all the Wheel of Fortune symbols lined up. I stood up and yelled, 'I just won $3 million dollars.' It was a very exciting adventure for me." The taxable amount Hollingsworth will pay was undisclosed, but Gene Haynes, public relations director at the casino, noted the state takes 6 percent from jackpots of $1,200 or more and the federal government could take from 28 to 30 percent. Hollingsworth will share her winnings with her husband and four grown children.
