Choctaws Brace for Opening of $177 Million Casino

CHOCTAW, MS - /The Meridian Star/ - The new Golden Moon Hotel and Casino is scheduled to open Monday, August 26 at 11:00 am.

The 28-story structure has 571 rooms, including 112 suites and 32 VIP luxury suites, topped by a lounge, a restaurant and an observation deck. The bottom floor has casinos plus a bistro, a coffee shop, dance floors, lounges, restaurants and stores.

The Golden Moon, a $177 million project, complements the Choctaw tribe’s original hotel and casino, the Silver Star, located across Highway 16, and the nearby Dancing Rabbit Golf Club and Geyser Falls Water Park. Plans also call for the construction of a Lake Pushmataha resort.

The Choctaws broke ground for the Golden Moon project in November 2000 and topped the structure off in March of last year. A grand opening is scheduled for October 4.

Vegas-Style Casino Planned for U.K. Seaside Town

LONDON – /U.K. Evening News/ - A multi-million pound Las Vegas-style casino is to be built at a Norfolk seaside town despite staunch opposition from rival developers.

Planning permission has been granted once and for all, to turn the Oasis Hotel and Tower, in Marine Parade, Great Yarmouth, into a casino, restaurant, nightclub and amusement arcade.

The £5 million (US$7.64 million) Atlantis casino is being masterminded by hotelier Rodney Scott and amusement centre entrepreneur Colin Abbott.

Members of Great Yarmouth Borough Council's development committee believe it will breathe new life into the Golden Mile.

It is hoped work to convert the hotel will start in October 2002 with parts of the development being opened in May 2003, and the whole project being completed in April/May 2004. Some 300 new jobs could be created.

A gambling review, led by former chief economic adviser to the Treasury Sir Alan Budd, recommended change to laws that could threaten family orientated amusement arcades in favour of American-style casinos.

Only last month Yarmouth's entrepreneurs Peter Jay and Mike Butcher, were also given planning permission to build casinos on the seafront.

Rival developers Cornshire objected the following day, complaining that a similar scheme they put forward in 1994 was rejected because it contained new arcades.”
