Casino Opens
The Pala Band
of Mission Indians opened the 185,000-square-foot Pala Casino in
North San Diego County April 3, the second of four casinos opening
in North County, CA, this spring.
The new casino
and entertainment complex cost approximately $115 million to build.
It is California's first casino built from the ground up since the
March 2000 passage of Proposition 1A. The complex is opened with
all of its amenities available to the public.
The 2,000 slot
and video machines at Pala Casino include the popular Wheel of Fortune,
Jeopardy, Monopoly, Megabuck, Blazing Sevens, Double Diamonds and
Triple Play Poker. Pala also offers games unique to the casino,
including California Millions, Carnival Keno and Wacky Wheel Winners.
Slots are pay out via coin or ticket vouchers. The 46 Las Vegas-style
gaming tables offer Blackjack, Pai-Gow Poker, Mini-Baccarat, Three
Card Poker, Caribbean Stud Poker, Let It Ride, and Casino War.
The complex
also has a non-smoking gaming area that comprises 25 percent of
the casino floor.

Pala also
features six restaurants ranging from causal to fine dinning, with
seating both indoors and outdoors on a large terrace overlooking
the beautiful Pala Lake and mountains, two entertainment venues
and a 200,000-square-foot events center for concerts, boxing and
banquets.
The casino is
expected to bring in revenues of between $30 and $40 million per
year and will employ approximately 1,300 people.
Pala Casino
is located 15 miles north of Escondido, CA, five miles east of Highway
15 on State Route 76.

Stratosphere Casino Hotel Tower
Expansion Project Nearing Completion

VEGAS, NV -The Stratosphere
Casino Hotel and Tower is nearing the completion of the
anticipated $75 million tower expansion project.
The new
rooms are slated for a mid-summer opening, but components
of the project are scheduled to begin opening by May 2001.
The
project includes: a 1,000-room tower with 100 suites, many
with oversized spa tubs and fabulous views of the Las Vegas
Strip; a 67,000-square-foot resort style pool and recreation
deck on the eighth floor of the new tower -- overlooking the
Las Vegas Strip -- featuring a spa, private cabanas and a
special event area.
There
will also be a snack bar and full-service cocktail bar slated
to open in June 2001; Lucky's Cafe, a 300-seat coffee shop
with decor best described as "vintage Las Vegas'' with a 50s
style art deco theme with historical photographs of Las Vegas
-- set to open May 2001; a buffet expansion; and an entertainment
and special event amphitheater that will seat more than 3,700
guests and will bring the hottest headliners and special events,
such as world-class boxing, to the north end of the Strip.
The project
also includes a new entrance, complete with a new porte cochere,
valet parking entrance, bus terminal, hotel lobby and gift
shop area, and incorporates some of the most up-to-date safety
features, such as earthquake-proof codes and safety features,
sprinklers, smoke alarms and strobes for the hearing-impaired.
