Marc Lawrence Playbook Magazine,
Football Action-Good Football Stats Material

By Howard Schwartz

Each June and July, a good stretch before exhibition games begin for the pros and with plenty of time before the colleges get going, dedicated football bettors seeking to dust off their ledgers and update themselves on past spreads, Totals histories and plan ask when "the new stuff will arrive."

Well, they've begun arriving.

Al O'Donnell's Pointspread Playbook (104 pages, paperbound, $19.95) arrived a week ago at Gambler's Book Shop, with three years of pro spreads, totals and thousands of potential betting angles.

Now Marc Lawrence's Playbook's 2001 Football Handicapper's Yearbook (248 pages, magazine, $7.95) is in, containing more than 5,000 trends and angles for both college and pro bettors; 10 years of spreads and totals; schedules; angles by the week and by the month; angles keyed to coaches and key boxscore stats from each game played last year.

There are preseason angles for the pros; reminders for key games to watch during 2001 for the colleges. Also, Monday night angles and how pro teams do after a week of rest The magazine also includes l6 pages of college and pro team analysis; betting angles; information on which college and pro teams play at home on what type playing surfaces and an entire pre-season schedule, week by week (Pittsburgh will play at Atlanta Aug. 3 in the first game).

A big package of valuable material for $7.95.

Now Football Action (220 pages, magazine,$6.95) has in its college edition, what line watchers often seek most. How did the line move day by day from the time it opened and what did the Totals number do in the same way? This is course is for those who believe in betting early or late or for those who just want to see what would have happened IF they had bet early or late with some theory or angle.

The magazine starts with all college games played last Aug. 26th and contains all the college games, then the regular season only pro games from September to Jan. 28, 200 and the Super Bowl.

Since this is the Football Action college issue, the focus is on the college teams, showing the 2001 schedule for each college team; last

year's scores and spreads; and it contains three college betting angles for each team following an analysis of each team. On each page for each team there's an indication of the type offense and defense each team operates (multiple, pro set, etc.); number of starters returning or loss; number of lettermen returning or lost.

Thus, for those who like to do their homework early and get a quick start as a bettor or bet-taker or just want to familiarize yourself with new names, new coaches and new potential trends and angles, the two magazines and Al O'Donnell's book are good places to begin.
