Ameristar Casino Wins Four Diamond Award

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA - For the fourth consecutive year, Ameristar Casino Hotel has earned the American Automobile Association (AAA) coveted Four Diamond Award.

Ameristar's Iowa operation is the only riverboat facility in the nation and one of only three hotels in Iowa to have achieved this prestigious designation. "AAA Four Diamond Award winners such as Ameristar Casino Hotel are upscale in all areas, reflecting an enhanced level of quality throughout.

Throughout each year, AAA's tourism editors visit more than 90,000 lodgings, campgrounds, restaurants and attractions performing unannounced evaluations.

Less than three percent of the estimated 27,400 AAA-rated hotels and motels attain the Four Diamond excellence level. In order to achieve Four Diamond status, a business must undergo a rigorous physical inspection that encompasses the areas of exterior and grounds, public areas, room decor and ambiance, guest room amenities, bathrooms, housekeeping, property operations and guest services.

Four Diamond properties are considered excellent, and reflect an exceptional degree of hospitality, service and attention to detail.

The diamond ratings represent the overall quality of a property, and help people in choosing lodgings that meet their needs and expectations. Ameristar Casino Council Bluffs, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ameristar Casinos, Inc., opened in January 1996.

Featuring architecture reminiscent of a gateway river town, the resort complements the region with a distinctive presence and offers American Automobile Association (AAA) Four Diamond culinary, gaming and lodging services. Four restaurants provide a variety of dining experiences from the casual comforts of the Amerisports Bar & Cabaret to the intimate Waterfront Grill, specializing in steaks and seafood.

The hotel provides a full range of accommodations with 160 rooms, many boasting panoramic views of the Missouri River and the Ameristar II Riverboat.

A full 38,500 square feet of casino space provides guests with the choice of 1,510 slot machines, the area's largest variety. Forty-six table games include Blackjack (including Spanish 21 and Double Exposure), Roulette, Craps, Caribbean Stud, Caribbean Draw, Fortune Pai Gow, 3-Card Poker, Let It Ride Bonus, and Triple Shot.

Publicly held since November 1993, Ameristar Casinos owns and operates six properties in Nevada, Missouri, Iowa and Mississippi, two of which carry the prestigious American Automobile Association's Four Diamond designation.

UK Poised for Las Vegas Casinos

LONDON - The biggest shakeup of the UK's gambling laws for more than 30 years has been unveiled, paving the way for Las Vegas-style casino resorts in holiday towns like Blackpool.

Tight regulations imposed on gaming in the 1960s prompted by concern about gangster involvement are to be scrapped or significantly relaxed.

It will be easier for casinos to be opened and gambling clubs will be allowed to offer a wider range of games, with unlimited jackpot prizes.

Casinos will be able to offer live entertainment and serve alcohol on the gaming floor.
Ministers say they want to revolutionize the industry and make it more "mainstream".

The changes will also affect online gambling, with licensing introduced for the first time.

A Gambling Commission will be set up, with tough powers to oversee the whole of the industry and enforce a new code of conduct.

Unveiling the White Paper, Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell said modernization of gambling laws was long overdue.

"We want gambling to be safe, not only for those who take part in it, but also in the way that it impacts on wider society," she said.

Ms. Jowell predicted that the changes would boost the industry's profits by around $750 million (£500m) a year.

Blackpool, the UK's biggest seaside resort, is already planning to take advantage of the changes.
Some of Blackpool's business leaders believe changes in the
