Nevada Regulators Approve
First Private Casino For High-Rollers

LAS VEGAS - For the first time since gambling was legalized in Nevada in 1931, high stakes gamblers may soon be allowed to place their bets in private.

State regulators on July 10 approved the MGM Grand Hotel Casino's application for Nevada's first private gambling salon for high rollers.

The Gaming Control Board unanimously voted to recommend the application for the resort's owner MGM Mirage Inc. The salon is expected to open in August if the Nevada Gaming Commission approves the application at its July 25 meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The private salon would be equipped with high-tech surveillance devices to allow regulators to monitor betting and ensure that the games are fair.

Attorney Bob Faiss, representing MGM Mirage, told the board the private gambling areas "will strengthen the ability of Nevada casinos to compete in the high-end market with gambling operations in other jurisdictions."

The private gambling salon license will come up for review in two years, said Gaming Control Board Chairman Dennis Neilander.

Bob Moon, marketing chairman for MGM Mirage, said the company will promote the salon to a limited number of foreign gamblers.

"We also anticipate developing some high-end players in the domestic market," he said.

While MGM Mirage told the board the company has no intention of opening a private salon at any of its other casinos, another Las Vegas casino — Caesars Palace — has applied to open a salon.

The Park Place Entertainment Corp. resort last month filed the second application for a salon since the Nevada Legislature last year approved letting casinos offer private gambling.

The new private casinos allow gamblers with at least dlrs 500,000 in cash or a credit line. Minimum wagers on private casino slot machines and table games will be dlrs 500.

Lawmakers approved the change so Nevada could compete with other gambling locales where private wagering is allowed, including Europe, Asia and one tribal casino in Connecticut.

Newly Renovated Lucky Eagle Casino
Entertains Big Crowds in First Month

ROCHESTER, WA - The eagerly awaited completion of the Lucky Eagle Casino's 16 million dollar renovation last month exceeded even the most optimistic projections of casino management, the Lucky Eagle announced July 9. "We thought we would have a good turnout," said casino General Manager John Setterstrom, "but we were a little surprised by the overall count. Of course, we did have a very popular entertainer in the house on June 15th, and a lot of people were able to discover our new restaurant options right off the bat."

Renowned country singer Glen Campbell played to a capacity crowd on Saturday June 15th, an act Setterstrom promises will be followed by other nationally recognized entertainers. "We have a long track record of bringing big names to southwest Washington," Setterstrom said. "Glen Campbell was so popular with our guests, we already have plans to bring him back in February."

Those attending the Campbell concert were among the first to sample the fare at the Lucky Eagle's new restaurants, including The Prime Rib & Steak House, Grand Buffet, the Center Stage Grill, and Sidewalk Deli. "We really wanted to give our guests more dining options," said Lucky Eagle chef Bruce Miller. "They now have very different choices in terms of both menu items and ambiance. It makes repeat visits a little more exciting."

The Prime Rib & Steak House offers incredible fare in a romantic, intimate atmosphere. "We now have the premier steak house in the area," Chef Miller said. "Our table-side prime rib cart is the only one of its kind in Washington." Other restaurant options are equally inventive. At 65 menu items, the gracefully curving Grand Buffet is the largest in the northwest. For those desiring more casual fare, the Center Stage Grill & Cabaret offers gourmet burgers and salads during lunch and dinner hours, and has free live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. What's more, the Sidewalk Deli is always open for guests seeking a quick sandwich or late night snack.

"The new Lucky Eagle is all about options," Setterstrom said. "We're also planning a new non-smoking gaming area and the addition of 70 new slot machines. It's all part of our ongoing commitment to exceed our guest's expectations."

The Lucky Eagle Casino is located just off Highway 12 in Rochester, Washington. Featured games include Slot Machines (largest variety and highest payout rates in the northwest), Video Poker, Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, Bingo and Keno.
